In the returned string, symbolic links are resolved, as are <i>.<\/i> and <i>..<\/i> pathname components. Consecutive slash (<i>\/<\/i>) characters are replaced by a single slash.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The returned string is dynamically allocated by <b>canonicalize_file_name<\/b>() and the caller should deallocate it with <b>free<\/b>(3) when it is no longer required.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The call <i>canonicalize_file_name(path)<\/i> is equivalent to the call:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">realpath(path, NULL);<\/p>\n<h2>RETURN VALUE <a name=\"RETURN VALUE\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">On success, <b>canonicalize_file_name<\/b>() returns a null-terminated string.
