DESCRIPTION <\/a> <\/h2>\n

The label<\/b> command creates a new window (given by the pathName<\/i> argument) and makes it into a label widget. Additional options, described above, may be specified on the command line or in the option database to configure aspects of the label such as its colors, font, text, and initial relief. The label<\/b> command returns its pathName<\/i> argument. At the time this command is invoked, there must not exist a window named pathName<\/i>, but pathName<\/i>\u2019s parent must exist.<\/p>\n

A label is a widget that displays a textual string, bitmap or image. If text is displayed, it must all be in a single font, but it can occupy multiple lines on the screen (if it contains newlines or if wrapping occurs because of the \u2212wraplength<\/b> option) and one of the characters may optionally be underlined using the \u2212underline<\/b> option. The label can be manipulated in a few simple ways, such as changing its relief or text, using the commands described below.<\/p>\n

WIDGET COMMAND <\/a> <\/h2>\n

The label<\/b> command creates a new Tcl command whose name is pathName<\/i>. This command may be used to invoke various operations on the widget. It has the following general form:<\/p>\n

pathName option<\/i> ?arg arg …<\/i>?<\/p>\n

Option<\/i> and the arg<\/i>s determine the exact behavior of the command. The following commands are possible for label widgets:
pathName<\/i> cget<\/b> option<\/i><\/p>\n

Returns the current value of the configuration option given by option<\/i>. Option<\/i> may have any of the values accepted by the label<\/b> command.<\/p>\n

pathName<\/i> configure<\/b> ?option<\/i>? ?value option value …<\/i>?<\/p>\n

Query or modify the configuration options of the widget. If no option<\/i> is specified, returns a list describing all of the available options for pathName<\/i> (see Tk_ConfigureInfo<\/b> for information on the format of this list). If option<\/i> is specified with no value<\/i>, then the command returns a list describing the one named option (this list will be identical to the corresponding sublist of the value returned if no option<\/i> is specified). If one or more option\u2212value<\/i> pairs are specified, then the command modifies the given widget option(s) to have the given value(s); in this case the command returns an empty string. Option<\/i> may have any of the values accepted by the label<\/b> command.<\/p>\n

BINDINGS <\/a> <\/h2>\n

When a new label is created, it has no default event bindings: labels are not intended to be interactive.<\/p>\n
