Any conflict between the requirements described here and the ISO\u00a0C standard is unintentional. This volume of POSIX.1-2017 defers to the ISO\u00a0C standard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The <i><stddef.h><\/i> header shall define the following macros:<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" rules=\"none\" frame=\"void\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"11%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"6%\">\n<p>NULL<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"9%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"74%\">\n<p>Null pointer constant. Each member of the basic character set shall have a code value equal to its value when used as the lone character in an integer character constant if an implementation does not define __STDC_MB_MIGHT_NEQ_WC__.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"11%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"14%\">\n<p><b>size_t<\/b><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"1%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"74%\">\n<p>Unsigned integer type of the result of the <i>sizeof<\/i> operator.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The implementation shall support one or more programming environments in which the widths of <b>ptrdiff_t<\/b>, <b>size_t<\/b>, and <b>wchar_t<\/b> are no greater than the width of type <b>long<\/b>. The names of these programming environments can be obtained using the <i>confstr<\/i>() function or the <i>getconf<\/i> utility.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\"><i>The following sections are informative.<\/i><\/p>\n<h2>APPLICATION USAGE <a name=\"APPLICATION USAGE\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">None.<\/p>\n<h2>RATIONALE <a name=\"RATIONALE\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The ISO\u00a0C standard does not require the NULL macro to include the cast to type <b>void *<\/b> and specifies that the NULL macro be implementation-defined.
