The Linux implementation of this interface may differ (consult the corresponding Linux manual page for details of Linux behavior), or the interface may not be implemented on Linux.<\/p>\n<h2>NAME <a name=\"NAME\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">pthread_mutexattr_gettype, pthread_mutexattr_settype \u2014 get and set the mutex type attribute<\/p>\n<h2>SYNOPSIS <a name=\"SYNOPSIS\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">#include <pthread.h><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">int pthread_mutexattr_gettype(const pthread_mutexattr_t *restrict <i>attr<\/i>, <br \/> int *restrict <i>type<\/i>); <br \/> int pthread_mutexattr_settype(pthread_mutexattr_t *<i>attr<\/i>, int <i>type<\/i>);<\/p>\n<h2>DESCRIPTION <a name=\"DESCRIPTION\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The <i>pthread_mutexattr_gettype<\/i>() and <i>pthread_mutexattr_settype<\/i>() functions, respectively, shall get and set the mutex <i>type<\/i> attribute. This attribute is set in the <i>type<\/i> parameter to these functions. The default value of the <i>type<\/i> attribute is PTHREAD_MUTEX_DEFAULT.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The type of mutex is contained in the <i>type<\/i> attribute of the mutex attributes. Valid mutex types include:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:22%; margin-top: 1em\">PTHREAD_MUTEX_NORMAL PTHREAD_MUTEX_ERRORCHECK PTHREAD_MUTEX_RECURSIVE PTHREAD_MUTEX_DEFAULT<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The mutex type affects the behavior of calls which lock and unlock the mutex. See <i>pthread_mutex_lock<\/i>() for details. An implementation may map PTHREAD_MUTEX_DEFAULT to one of the other mutex types.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The behavior is undefined if the value specified by the <i>attr<\/i> argument to <i>pthread_mutexattr_gettype<\/i>() or <i>pthread_mutexattr_settype<\/i>() does not refer to an initialized mutex attributes object.<\/p>\n<h2>RETURN VALUE <a name=\"RETURN VALUE\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">Upon successful completion, the <i>pthread_mutexattr_gettype<\/i>() function shall return zero and store the value of the <i>type<\/i> attribute of <i>attr<\/i> into the object referenced by the <i>type<\/i> parameter. Otherwise, an error shall be returned to indicate the error.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">If successful, the <i>pthread_mutexattr_settype<\/i>() function shall return zero; otherwise, an error number shall be returned to indicate the error.<\/p>\n<h2>ERRORS <a name=\"ERRORS\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The <i>pthread_mutexattr_settype<\/i>() function shall fail if:<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" rules=\"none\" frame=\"void\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"11%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"9%\">\n<p><b>EINVAL<\/b><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"2%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"40%\">\n<p>The value <i>type<\/i> is invalid.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"38%\"> <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">These functions shall not return an error code of <b>[EINTR]<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\"><i>The following sections are informative.<\/i><\/p>\n<h2>EXAMPLES <a name=\"EXAMPLES\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">None.<\/p>\n<h2>APPLICATION USAGE <a name=\"APPLICATION USAGE\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">It is advised that an application should not use a PTHREAD_MUTEX_RECURSIVE mutex with condition variables because the implicit unlock performed for a <i>pthread_cond_timedwait<\/i>() or <i>pthread_cond_wait<\/i>() may not actually release the mutex (if it had been locked multiple times).
