Any conflict between the requirements described here and the ISO\u00a0C standard is unintentional. This volume of POSIX.1-2017 defers to the ISO\u00a0C standard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">These functions shall compute <i>x\u00a0<\/i>*\u00a0FLT_RADIX <i><small><small>n<\/small><\/small><\/i> efficiently, not normally by computing FLT_RADIX <i><small><small>n<\/small><\/small><\/i> explicitly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">An application wishing to check for error situations should set <i>errno<\/i> to zero and call <i>feclearexcept<\/i>(FE_ALL_EXCEPT) before calling these functions. On return, if <i>errno<\/i> is non-zero or <i>fetestexcept<\/i>(FE_INVALID | FE_DIVBYZERO | FE_OVERFLOW | FE_UNDERFLOW) is non-zero, an error has occurred.<\/p>\n<h2>RETURN VALUE <a name=\"RETURN VALUE\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">Upon successful completion, these functions shall return <i>x\u00a0<\/i>*\u00a0FLT_RADIX <i><small><small>n<\/small><\/small><\/i> .<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">If the result would cause overflow, a range error shall occur and these functions shall return \u00b1HUGE_VAL, \u00b1HUGE_VALF, and \u00b1HUGE_VALL (according to the sign of <i>x<\/i>) as appropriate for the return type of the function.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">If the correct value would cause underflow, and is not representable, a range error may occur, and <i>scalbln<\/i>(), <i>scalblnf<\/i>(), <i>scalblnl<\/i>(), <i>scalbn<\/i>(), <i>scalbnf<\/i>(), and <i>scalbnl<\/i>() shall return 0.0, or (if IEC 60559 Floating-Point is not supported) an implementation-defined value no greater in magnitude than DBL_MIN, FLT_MIN, LDBL_MIN, DBL_MIN, FLT_MIN, and LDBL_MIN, respectively.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">If <i>x<\/i> is NaN, a NaN shall be returned.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">If <i>x<\/i> is \u00b10 or \u00b1Inf, <i>x<\/i> shall be returned.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">If <i>n<\/i> is 0, <i>x<\/i> shall be returned.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">If the correct value would cause underflow, and is representable, a range error may occur and the correct value shall be returned.<\/p>\n<h2>ERRORS <a name=\"ERRORS\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">These functions shall fail if:<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" rules=\"none\" frame=\"void\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"11%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"17%\">\n<p>Range\u00a0Error<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"1%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"33%\">\n<p>The result overflows.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"38%\"> <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"margin-left:29%; margin-top: 1em\">If the integer expression (<i>math_errhandling<\/i> &#038; MATH_ERRNO) is non-zero, then <i>errno<\/i> shall be set to <b>[ERANGE]<\/b>. If the integer expression (<i>math_errhandling<\/i> &#038; MATH_ERREXCEPT) is non-zero, then the underflow floating-point exception shall be raised.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\"><i>The following sections are informative.<\/i><\/p>\n<h2>EXAMPLES <a name=\"EXAMPLES\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">None.<\/p>\n<h2>APPLICATION USAGE <a name=\"APPLICATION USAGE\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">On error, the expressions (<i>math_errhandling<\/i> &#038; MATH_ERRNO) and (<i>math_errhandling<\/i> &#038; MATH_ERREXCEPT) are independent of each other, but at least one of them must be non-zero.<\/p>\n<h2>RATIONALE <a name=\"RATIONALE\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">These functions are named so as to avoid conflicting with the historical definition of the <i>scalb<\/i>() function from the Single UNIX Specification. The difference is that the <i>scalb<\/i>() function has a second argument of <b>double<\/b> instead of <b>int<\/b>. The <i>scalb<\/i>() function is not part of the ISO\u00a0C standard.
