lchown \u2014 change the owner and group of a symbolic link<\/p>\n

SYNOPSIS <\/a> <\/h2>\n

int lchown(const char *path<\/i>, uid_t owner<\/i>, gid_t group<\/i>);<\/p>\n

DESCRIPTION <\/a> <\/h2>\n

The lchown<\/i>() function shall be equivalent to chown<\/i>(), except in the case where the named file is a symbolic link. In this case, lchown<\/i>() shall change the ownership of the symbolic link file itself, while chown<\/i>() changes the ownership of the file or directory to which the symbolic link refers.<\/p>\n

RETURN VALUE <\/a> <\/h2>\n

Upon successful completion, lchown<\/i>() shall return 0. Otherwise, it shall return \u22121 and set errno<\/i> to indicate an error.<\/p>\n

Changing the Current Owner of a File<\/b><\/i>
The following example shows how to change the ownership of the symbolic link named \/modules\/pass1<\/b> to the user ID associated with \u2018\u2018jones\u2019\u2019 and the group ID associated with \u2018\u2018cnd\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n

The numeric value for the user ID is obtained by using the getpwnam<\/i>() function. The numeric value for the group ID is obtained by using the getgrnam<\/i>() function.<\/p>\n
