This manual page is part of the POSIX Programmer\u2019s Manual. The Linux implementation of this interface may differ (consult the corresponding Linux manual page for details of Linux behavior), or the interface may not be implemented on Linux.<\/p>\n

NAME <\/a> <\/h2>\n

fchdir \u2014 change working directory<\/p>\n

SYNOPSIS <\/a> <\/h2>\n

int fchdir(int fildes<\/i>);<\/p>\n

DESCRIPTION <\/a> <\/h2>\n

The fchdir<\/i>() function shall be equivalent to chdir<\/i>() except that the directory that is to be the new current working directory is specified by the file descriptor fildes<\/i>.<\/p>\n

A conforming application can obtain a file descriptor for a file of type directory using open<\/i>(), provided that the file status flags and access modes do not contain O_WRONLY or O_RDWR.<\/p>\n

RETURN VALUE <\/a> <\/h2>\n

Upon successful completion, fchdir<\/i>() shall return 0. Otherwise, it shall return \u22121 and set errno<\/i> to indicate the error. On failure the current working directory shall remain unchanged.<\/p>\n

ERRORS <\/a> <\/h2>\n

The fchdir<\/i>() function shall fail if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
