The Linux implementation of this interface may differ (consult the corresponding Linux manual page for details of Linux behavior), or the interface may not be implemented on Linux.<\/p>\n<h2>NAME <a name=\"NAME\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">writev \u2014 write a vector<\/p>\n<h2>SYNOPSIS <a name=\"SYNOPSIS\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">#include <sys\/uio.h><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">ssize_t writev(int <i>fildes<\/i>, const struct iovec *<i>iov<\/i>, int <i>iovcnt<\/i>);<\/p>\n<h2>DESCRIPTION <a name=\"DESCRIPTION\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The <i>writev<\/i>() function shall be equivalent to <i>write<\/i>(), except as described below. The <i>writev<\/i>() function shall gather output data from the <i>iovcnt<\/i> buffers specified by the members of the <i>iov<\/i> array: <i>iov<\/i>[0], <i>iov<\/i>[1], &#8230;, <i>iov<\/i>[<i>iovcnt<\/i>\u22121]. The <i>iovcnt<\/i> argument is valid if greater than 0 and less than or equal to {IOV_MAX}, as defined in <i><limits.h><\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">Each <i>iovec<\/i> entry specifies the base address and length of an area in memory from which data should be written. The <i>writev<\/i>() function shall always write a complete area before proceeding to the next.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">If <i>fildes<\/i> refers to a regular file and all of the <i>iov_len<\/i> members in the array pointed to by <i>iov<\/i> are 0, <i>writev<\/i>() shall return 0 and have no other effect. For other file types, the behavior is unspecified.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">If the sum of the <i>iov_len<\/i> values is greater than {SSIZE_MAX}, the operation shall fail and no data shall be transferred.<\/p>\n<h2>RETURN VALUE <a name=\"RETURN VALUE\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">Upon successful completion, <i>writev<\/i>() shall return the number of bytes actually written.
