This manual page is part of the POSIX Programmer\u2019s Manual. The Linux implementation of this interface may differ (consult the corresponding Linux manual page for details of Linux behavior), or the interface may not be implemented on Linux.<\/p>\n

NAME <\/a> <\/h2>\n

fchmod \u2014 change mode of a file<\/p>\n

SYNOPSIS <\/a> <\/h2>\n

int fchmod(int fildes<\/i>, mode_t mode<\/i>);<\/p>\n

DESCRIPTION <\/a> <\/h2>\n

The fchmod<\/i>() function shall be equivalent to chmod<\/i>() except that the file whose permissions are changed is specified by the file descriptor fildes<\/i>.<\/p>\n

If fildes<\/i> references a shared memory object, the fchmod<\/i>() function need only affect the S_IRUSR, S_IWUSR, S_IRGRP, S_IWGRP, S_IROTH, and S_IWOTH file permission bits.<\/p>\n

If fildes<\/i> references a typed memory object, the behavior of fchmod<\/i>() is unspecified.<\/p>\n

If fildes<\/i> refers to a socket, the behavior of fchmod<\/i>() is unspecified.<\/p>\n

If fildes<\/i> refers to a STREAM (which is fattach<\/i>()-ed into the file system name space) the call returns successfully, doing nothing.<\/p>\n

RETURN VALUE <\/a> <\/h2>\n

Upon successful completion, fchmod<\/i>() shall return 0. Otherwise, it shall return \u22121 and set errno<\/i> to indicate the error.<\/p>\n

ERRORS <\/a> <\/h2>\n

The fchmod<\/i>() function shall fail if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
