The Linux implementation of this interface may differ (consult the corresponding Linux manual page for details of Linux behavior), or the interface may not be implemented on Linux.<\/p>\n<h2>NAME <a name=\"NAME\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">msgrcv \u2014 XSI message receive operation<\/p>\n<h2>SYNOPSIS <a name=\"SYNOPSIS\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">#include <sys\/msg.h><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">ssize_t msgrcv(int <i>msqid<\/i>, void *<i>msgp<\/i>, size_t <i>msgsz<\/i>, long <i>msgtyp<\/i>, <br \/> int <i>msgflg<\/i>);<\/p>\n<h2>DESCRIPTION <a name=\"DESCRIPTION\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The <i>msgrcv<\/i>() function operates on XSI message queues (see the Base Definitions volume of POSIX.1-2017, <i>Section 3.226<\/i>, <i>Message Queue<\/i>). It is unspecified whether this function interoperates with the realtime interprocess communication facilities defined in <i>Section 2.8<\/i>, <i>Realtime<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The <i>msgrcv<\/i>() function shall read a message from the queue associated with the message queue identifier specified by <i>msqid<\/i> and place it in the user-defined buffer pointed to by <i>msgp<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The application shall ensure that the argument <i>msgp<\/i> points to a user-defined buffer that contains first a field of type <b>long<\/b> specifying the type of the message, and then a data portion that holds the data bytes of the message. The structure below is an example of what this user-defined buffer might look like:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:17%; margin-top: 1em\">struct mymsg { <br \/> long mtype; \/bin \/boot \/dead.letter \/dev \/etc \/home \/initrd \/lib \/lib64 \/lost+found \/media \/mnt \/opt \/proc \/release-notes.html \/release-notes.txt \/root \/run \/sbin \/srv \/sys \/tmp \/usr \/var Message type. bodies\/ usr\/ <br \/> char mtext[1]; \/bin \/boot \/dead.letter \/dev \/etc \/home \/initrd \/lib \/lib64 \/lost+found \/media \/mnt \/opt \/proc \/release-notes.html \/release-notes.txt \/root \/run \/sbin \/srv \/sys \/tmp \/usr \/var Message text. bodies\/ usr\/ <br \/> }<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The structure member <i>mtype<\/i> is the received message\u2019s type as specified by the sending process.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The structure member <i>mtext<\/i> is the text of the message.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The argument <i>msgsz<\/i> specifies the size in bytes of <i>mtext<\/i>. The received message shall be truncated to <i>msgsz<\/i> bytes if it is larger than <i>msgsz<\/i> and (<i>msgflg<\/i> &#038; MSG_NOERROR) is non-zero.
