The Linux implementation of this interface may differ (consult the corresponding Linux manual page for details of Linux behavior), or the interface may not be implemented on Linux.<\/p>\n<h2>NAME <a name=\"NAME\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">msgctl \u2014 XSI message control operations<\/p>\n<h2>SYNOPSIS <a name=\"SYNOPSIS\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">#include <sys\/msg.h><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">int msgctl(int <i>msqid<\/i>, int <i>cmd<\/i>, struct msqid_ds *<i>buf<\/i>);<\/p>\n<h2>DESCRIPTION <a name=\"DESCRIPTION\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The <i>msgctl<\/i>() function operates on XSI message queues (see the Base Definitions volume of POSIX.1-2017, <i>Section 3.226<\/i>, <i>Message Queue<\/i>). It is unspecified whether this function interoperates with the realtime interprocess communication facilities defined in <i>Section 2.8<\/i>, <i>Realtime<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The <i>msgctl<\/i>() function shall provide message control operations as specified by <i>cmd<\/i>. The following values for <i>cmd<\/i>, and the message control operations they specify, are:<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" rules=\"none\" frame=\"void\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"11%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"12%\">\n<p>IPC_STAT<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"6%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"71%\">\n<p>Place the current value of each member of the <b>msqid_ds<\/b> data structure associated with <i>msqid<\/i> into the structure pointed to by <i>buf<\/i>. The contents of this structure are defined in <i><sys\/msg.h><\/i>.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"11%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"12%\">\n<p>IPC_SET<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"6%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"71%\">\n<p>Set the value of the following members of the <b>msqid_ds<\/b> data structure associated with <i>msqid<\/i> to the corresponding value found in the structure pointed to by <i>buf<\/i>:<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"margin-left:35%; margin-top: 1em\">msg_perm.uid <br \/> msg_perm.gid <br \/> msg_perm.mode <br \/> msg_qbytes<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:29%; margin-top: 1em\">Also, the <i>msg_ctime<\/i> timestamp shall be set to the current time, as described in <i>Section 2.7.1<\/i>, <i>IPC General Description<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:29%; margin-top: 1em\">IPC_SET can only be executed by a process with appropriate privileges or that has an effective user ID equal to the value of <b>msg_perm.cuid<\/b> or <b>msg_perm.uid<\/b> in the <b>msqid_ds<\/b> data structure associated with <i>msqid<\/i>. Only a process with appropriate privileges can raise the value of <b>msg_qbytes<\/b>.<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" rules=\"none\" frame=\"void\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"11%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"12%\">\n<p style=\"margin-top: 1em\">IPC_RMID<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"6%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"71%\">\n<p style=\"margin-top: 1em\">Remove the message queue identifier specified by <i>msqid<\/i> from the system and destroy the message queue and <b>msqid_ds<\/b> data structure associated with it.
