msgctl \u2014 XSI message control operations<\/p>\n

DESCRIPTION <\/a> <\/h2>\n

The msgctl<\/i>() function operates on XSI message queues (see the Base Definitions volume of POSIX.1-2017, Section 3.226<\/i>, Message Queue<\/i>). It is unspecified whether this function interoperates with the realtime interprocess communication facilities defined in Section 2.8<\/i>, Realtime<\/i>.<\/p>\n

The msgctl<\/i>() function shall provide message control operations as specified by cmd<\/i>. The following values for cmd<\/i>, and the message control operations they specify, are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IPC_STAT<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

<\/td>\n\n

Place the current value of each member of the msqid_ds<\/b> data structure associated with msqid<\/i> into the structure pointed to by buf<\/i>. The contents of this structure are defined in <\/i>.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

IPC_SET<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

<\/td>\n\n

Set the value of the following members of the msqid_ds<\/b> data structure associated with msqid<\/i> to the corresponding value found in the structure pointed to by buf<\/i>:<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n

msg_perm.uid
msg_perm.gid
msg_perm.mode
msg_qbytes<\/p>\n

Also, the msg_ctime<\/i> timestamp shall be set to the current time, as described in Section 2.7.1<\/i>, IPC General Description<\/i>.<\/p>\n

IPC_SET can only be executed by a process with appropriate privileges or that has an effective user ID equal to the value of msg_perm.cuid<\/b> or msg_perm.uid<\/b> in the msqid_ds<\/b> data structure associated with msqid<\/i>. Only a process with appropriate privileges can raise the value of msg_qbytes<\/b>.<\/p>\n\n\n

IPC_RMID<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

<\/td>\n\n

Remove the message queue identifier specified by msqid<\/i> from the system and destroy the message queue and msqid_ds<\/b> data structure associated with it. IPC_RMD can only be executed by a process with appropriate privileges or one that has an effective user ID equal to the value of msg_perm.cuid<\/b> or msg_perm.uid<\/b> in the msqid_ds<\/b> data structure associated with msqid<\/i>.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n

RETURN VALUE <\/a> <\/h2>\n

Upon successful completion, msgctl<\/i>() shall return 0; otherwise, it shall return \u22121 and set errno<\/i> to indicate the error.<\/p>\n

The msgctl<\/i>() function shall fail if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
