NAME <\/a> <\/h2>\n

pthread_attr_getdetachstate, pthread_attr_setdetachstate \u2014 get and set the detachstate attribute<\/p>\n

DESCRIPTION <\/a> <\/h2>\n

The detachstate<\/i> attribute controls whether the thread is created in a detached state. If the thread is created detached, then use of the ID of the newly created thread by the pthread_detach<\/i>() or pthread_join<\/i>() function is an error.<\/p>\n

The pthread_attr_getdetachstate<\/i>() and pthread_attr_setdetachstate<\/i>() functions, respectively, shall get and set the detachstate<\/i> attribute in the attr<\/i> object.<\/p>\n

For pthread_attr_getdetachstate<\/i>(), detachstate<\/i> shall be set to either PTHREAD_CREATE_DETACHED or PTHREAD_CREATE_JOINABLE.<\/p>\n

For pthread_attr_setdetachstate<\/i>(), the application shall set detachstate<\/i> to either PTHREAD_CREATE_DETACHED or PTHREAD_CREATE_JOINABLE.<\/p>\n

A value of PTHREAD_CREATE_DETACHED shall cause all threads created with attr<\/i> to be in the detached state, whereas using a value of PTHREAD_CREATE_JOINABLE shall cause all threads created with attr<\/i> to be in the joinable state. The default value of the detachstate<\/i> attribute shall be PTHREAD_CREATE_JOINABLE.<\/p>\n

The behavior is undefined if the value specified by the attr<\/i> argument to pthread_attr_getdetachstate<\/i>() or pthread_attr_setdetachstate<\/i>() does not refer to an initialized thread attributes object.<\/p>\n

RETURN VALUE <\/a> <\/h2>\n

Upon successful completion, pthread_attr_getdetachstate<\/i>() and pthread_attr_setdetachstate<\/i>() shall return a value of 0; otherwise, an error number shall be returned to indicate the error.<\/p>\n

The pthread_attr_getdetachstate<\/i>() function stores the value of the detachstate<\/i> attribute in detachstate<\/i> if successful.<\/p>\n

The pthread_attr_setdetachstate<\/i>() function shall fail if:<\/p>\n\n\n

If an implementation detects that the value specified by the attr<\/i> argument to pthread_attr_getdetachstate<\/i>() or pthread_attr_setdetachstate<\/i>() does not refer to an initialized thread attributes object, it is recommended that the function should fail and report an [EINVAL]<\/b> error.<\/p>\n
