The functionality described on this reference page is aligned with the ISO\u00a0C standard. Any conflict between the requirements described here and the ISO\u00a0C standard is unintentional. This volume of POSIX.1-2017 defers to the ISO\u00a0C standard.<\/p>\n

These functions shall break a floating-point number num<\/i> into a normalized fraction and an integral power of 2. The integer exponent shall be stored in the int<\/b> object pointed to by exp<\/i>.<\/p>\n

RETURN VALUE <\/a> <\/h2>\n

For finite arguments, these functions shall return the value x<\/i>, such that x<\/i> has a magnitude in the interval [\u00bd,1) or 0, and num<\/i> equals x<\/i> times 2 raised to the power *exp<\/i>.<\/p>\n

If num<\/i> is NaN, a NaN shall be returned, and the value of *exp<\/i> is unspecified.<\/p>\n

If num<\/i> is \u00b10, \u00b10 shall be returned, and the value of *exp<\/i> shall be 0.<\/p>\n

If num<\/i> is \u00b1Inf, num<\/i> shall be returned, and the value of *exp<\/i> is unspecified.<\/p>\n
