The Linux implementation of this interface may differ (consult the corresponding Linux manual page for details of Linux behavior), or the interface may not be implemented on Linux.<\/p>\n<h2>NAME <a name=\"NAME\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">semget \u2014 get set of XSI semaphores<\/p>\n<h2>SYNOPSIS <a name=\"SYNOPSIS\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">#include <sys\/sem.h><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">int semget(key_t <i>key<\/i>, int <i>nsems<\/i>, int <i>semflg<\/i>);<\/p>\n<h2>DESCRIPTION <a name=\"DESCRIPTION\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The <i>semget<\/i>() function operates on XSI semaphores (see the Base Definitions volume of POSIX.1-2017, <i>Section 4.17<\/i>, <i>Semaphore<\/i>). It is unspecified whether this function interoperates with the realtime interprocess communication facilities defined in <i>Section 2.8<\/i>, <i>Realtime<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The <i>semget<\/i>() function shall return the semaphore identifier associated with <i>key<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">A semaphore identifier with its associated <b>semid_ds<\/b> data structure and its associated set of <i>nsems<\/i> semaphores (see <i><sys\/sem.h><\/i>) is created for <i>key<\/i> if one of the following is true:<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" rules=\"none\" frame=\"void\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"12%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"2%\">\n<p>*<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"3%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"83%\">\n<p>The argument <i>key<\/i> is equal to IPC_PRIVATE.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"12%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"2%\">\n<p>*<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"3%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"83%\">\n<p>The argument <i>key<\/i> does not already have a semaphore identifier associated with it and (<i>semflg<\/i> &#038;IPC_CREAT) is non-zero.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">Upon creation, the <b>semid_ds<\/b> data structure associated with the new semaphore identifier is initialized as follows:<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" rules=\"none\" frame=\"void\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"12%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"2%\">\n<p style=\"margin-top: 1em\">*<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"3%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"83%\">\n<p style=\"margin-top: 1em\">In the operation permissions structure <i>sem_perm.cuid<\/i>, <i>sem_perm.uid<\/i>, <i>sem_perm.cgid<\/i>, and <i>sem_perm.gid<\/i> shall be set to the effective user ID and effective group ID, respectively, of the calling process.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"12%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"2%\">\n<p>*<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"3%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"83%\">\n<p>The low-order 9 bits of <i>sem_perm.mode<\/i> shall be set to the low-order 9 bits of <i>semflg<\/i>.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"12%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"2%\">\n<p>*<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"3%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"83%\">\n<p>The variable <i>sem_nsems<\/i> shall be set to the value of <i>nsems<\/i>.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"12%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"2%\">\n<p>*<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"3%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"83%\">\n<p>The variable <i>sem_otime<\/i> shall be set to 0 and <i>sem_ctime<\/i> shall be set to the current time, as described in <i>Section 2.7.1<\/i>, <i>IPC General Description<\/i>.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"12%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"2%\">\n<p>*<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"3%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"83%\">\n<p>The data structure associated with each semaphore in the set need not be initialized.
