fchown \u2014 change owner and group of a file<\/p>\n

SYNOPSIS <\/a> <\/h2>\n

int fchown(int fildes<\/i>, uid_t owner<\/i>, gid_t group<\/i>);<\/p>\n

DESCRIPTION <\/a> <\/h2>\n

The fchown<\/i>() function shall be equivalent to chown<\/i>() except that the file whose owner and group are changed is specified by the file descriptor fildes<\/i>.<\/p>\n

RETURN VALUE <\/a> <\/h2>\n

Upon successful completion, fchown<\/i>() shall return 0. Otherwise, it shall return \u22121 and set errno<\/i> to indicate the error.<\/p>\n

ERRORS <\/a> <\/h2>\n

The fchown<\/i>() function shall fail if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Changing the Current Owner of a File<\/b><\/i>
The following example shows how to change the owner of a file named \/home\/cnd\/mod1<\/b> to \u2018\u2018jones\u2019\u2019 and the group to \u2018\u2018cnd\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n

The numeric value for the user ID is obtained by extracting the user ID from the user database entry associated with \u2018\u2018jones\u2019\u2019. Similarly, the numeric value for the group ID is obtained by extracting the group ID from the group database entry associated with \u2018\u2018cnd\u2019\u2019. This example assumes the calling program has appropriate privileges.<\/p>\n
