The Linux implementation of this interface may differ (consult the corresponding Linux manual page for details of Linux behavior), or the interface may not be implemented on Linux.<\/p>\n<h2>NAME <a name=\"NAME\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">basename \u2014 return the last component of a pathname<\/p>\n<h2>SYNOPSIS <a name=\"SYNOPSIS\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">#include <libgen.h><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">char *basename(char *<i>path<\/i>);<\/p>\n<h2>DESCRIPTION <a name=\"DESCRIPTION\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The <i>basename<\/i>() function shall take the pathname pointed to by <i>path<\/i> and return a pointer to the final component of the pathname, deleting any trailing <b>\u2019\/\u2019<\/b> characters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">If the string pointed to by <i>path<\/i> consists entirely of the <b>\u2019\/\u2019<\/b> character, <i>basename<\/i>() shall return a pointer to the string <b>&#8220;\/&#8221;<\/b>. If the string pointed to by <i>path<\/i> is exactly <b>&#8220;\/\/&#8221;<\/b>, it is implementation-defined whether <b>\u2019\/\u2019<\/b> or <b>&#8220;\/\/&#8221;<\/b> is returned.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">If <i>path<\/i> is a null pointer or points to an empty string, <i>basename<\/i>() shall return a pointer to the string <b>&#8220;.&#8221;<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The <i>basename<\/i>() function may modify the string pointed to by <i>path<\/i>, and may return a pointer to internal storage. The returned pointer might be invalidated or the storage might be overwritten by a subsequent call to <i>basename<\/i>().
