The Linux implementation of this interface may differ (consult the corresponding Linux manual page for details of Linux behavior), or the interface may not be implemented on Linux.<\/p>\n<h2>NAME <a name=\"NAME\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">shmget \u2014 get an XSI shared memory segment<\/p>\n<h2>SYNOPSIS <a name=\"SYNOPSIS\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">#include <sys\/shm.h><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">int shmget(key_t <i>key<\/i>, size_t <i>size<\/i>, int <i>shmflg<\/i>);<\/p>\n<h2>DESCRIPTION <a name=\"DESCRIPTION\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The <i>shmget<\/i>() function operates on XSI shared memory (see the Base Definitions volume of POSIX.1-2017, <i>Section 3.346<\/i>, <i>Shared Memory Object<\/i>). It is unspecified whether this function interoperates with the realtime interprocess communication facilities defined in <i>Section 2.8<\/i>, <i>Realtime<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The <i>shmget<\/i>() function shall return the shared memory identifier associated with <i>key<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">A shared memory identifier, associated data structure, and shared memory segment of at least <i>size<\/i> bytes (see <i><sys\/shm.h><\/i>) are created for <i>key<\/i> if one of the following is true:<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" rules=\"none\" frame=\"void\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"12%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"2%\">\n<p>*<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"3%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"83%\">\n<p>The argument <i>key<\/i> is equal to IPC_PRIVATE.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"12%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"2%\">\n<p>*<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"3%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"83%\">\n<p>The argument <i>key<\/i> does not already have a shared memory identifier associated with it and (<i>shmflg<\/i> &#038;IPC_CREAT) is non-zero.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">When the shared memory segment is created, it shall be initialized with all zero values.<\/p>\n<h2>RETURN VALUE <a name=\"RETURN VALUE\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">Upon successful completion, <i>shmget<\/i>() shall return a non-negative integer, namely a shared memory identifier;
