shmget \u2014 get an XSI shared memory segment<\/p>\n

DESCRIPTION <\/a> <\/h2>\n

The shmget<\/i>() function operates on XSI shared memory (see the Base Definitions volume of POSIX.1-2017, Section 3.346<\/i>, Shared Memory Object<\/i>). It is unspecified whether this function interoperates with the realtime interprocess communication facilities defined in Section 2.8<\/i>, Realtime<\/i>.<\/p>\n

The shmget<\/i>() function shall return the shared memory identifier associated with key<\/i>.<\/p>\n

A shared memory identifier, associated data structure, and shared memory segment of at least size<\/i> bytes (see <\/i>) are created for key<\/i> if one of the following is true:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The argument key<\/i> is equal to IPC_PRIVATE.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

RETURN VALUE <\/a> <\/h2>\n

Upon successful completion, shmget<\/i>() shall return a non-negative integer, namely a shared memory identifier; otherwise, it shall return \u22121 and set errno<\/i> to indicate the error.<\/p>\n
