It can also tell the kernel to add or remove partitions from its bookkeeping.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">The <i>disk<\/i> argument is optional when a <i>partition<\/i> argument is provided. To force scanning a partition as if it were a whole disk (for example to list nested subpartitions), use the argument &#8220;\u2212&#8221; (hyphen-minus). For example:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:22%;\">partx \u2212\u2212show \u2212 \/dev\/sda3<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\">This will see sda3 as a whole-disk rather than as a partition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\"><b>partx is not an fdisk program<\/b> \u2013 adding and removing partitions does not change the disk, it just tells the kernel about the presence and numbering of on-disk partitions.<\/p>\n<h2>OPTIONS <a name=\"OPTIONS\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%; margin-top: 1em\"><b>\u2212a<\/b>, <b>\u2212\u2212add<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:22%;\">Add the specified partitions, or read the disk and add all partitions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%;\"><b>\u2212b<\/b>, <b>\u2212\u2212bytes<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:22%;\">Print the SIZE column in bytes rather than in human-readable format.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%;\"><b>\u2212d<\/b>, <b>\u2212\u2212delete<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:22%;\">Delete the specified partitions or all partitions. It is not error to remove non-existing partitions, so this option is possible to use together with large <b>\u2212\u2212nr<\/b> ranges without care about the current partitions set on the device.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%;\"><b>\u2212g<\/b>, <b>\u2212\u2212noheadings<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:22%;\">Do not print a header line with <b>\u2212\u2212show<\/b> or <b>\u2212\u2212raw<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%;\"><b>\u2212l<\/b>, <b>\u2212\u2212list<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:22%;\">List the partitions. Note that all numbers are in 512-byte sectors. This output format is DEPRECATED in favour of <b>\u2212\u2212show<\/b>. Do not use it in newly written scripts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%;\"><b>\u2212n<\/b>, <b>\u2212\u2212nr<\/b> <i>M<\/i><b>:<\/b><i>N<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:22%;\">Specify the range of partitions. For backward compatibility also the format <i>M<\/i><b>\u2212<\/b><i>N<\/i> is supported. The range may contain negative numbers, for example <b>\u2212\u2212nr \u22121:\u22121<\/b> means the last partition, and <b>\u2212\u2212nr \u22122:\u22121<\/b> means the last two partitions. If no output arrangement is specified, then a default set is used. Use <b>\u2212\u2212help<\/b> to get <i>list<\/i> of all supported columns.
