The information reported is the same as the one shown by <b>iwconfig<\/b>, but <b>iwgetid<\/b> is easier to integrate in various scripts. <br \/> By default, <b>iwgetid<\/b> will print the <i>ESSID<\/i> of the device, and if the device doesn\u2019t have any ESSID it will print its <i>NWID<\/i>. <br \/> The default formatting output is pretty-print.<\/p>\n<h2>OPTIONS <a name=\"OPTIONS\"><\/a> <\/h2>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" rules=\"none\" frame=\"void\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tr valign=\"top\" align=\"left\">\n<td width=\"11%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"7%\">\n<p style=\"margin-top: 1em\"><b>&#8211;raw<\/b><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"4%\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"78%\">\n<p style=\"margin-top: 1em\">This option disables pretty-printing of the information. This option is orthogonal to the other options (except <b>&#8211;scheme<\/b>), so with the appropriate combination of options you can print the raw ESSID, AP Address or Mode.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"margin-left:22%;\">This format is ideal when storing the result of iwgetid as a variable in <i>Shell<\/i> or <i>Perl<\/i> scripts or to pass the result as an argument on the command line of <b>iwconfig<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:11%;\"><b>&#8211;scheme<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:22%;\">This option is similar to the previous one, it disables pretty-printing of the information and removes all characters that are not alphanumerics (like space, punctuation and control characters). <br \/> The resulting output is a valid Pcmcia scheme identifier (that may be used as an argument of the command <b>cardctl scheme<\/b>).
