shutdown<\/b> [OPTIONS…] [TIME] [WALL…]<\/p>\n<\/td>\n

DESCRIPTION <\/a> <\/h2>\n

shutdown<\/b> may be used to halt, power\u2212off or reboot the machine.<\/p>\n

The first argument may be a time string (which is usually “now”). Optionally, this may be followed by a wall message to be sent to all logged\u2212in users before going down.<\/p>\n

The time string may either be in the format “hh:mm” for hour\/minutes specifying the time to execute the shutdown at, specified in 24h clock format. Alternatively it may be in the syntax “+m” referring to the specified number of minutes m from now. “now” is an alias for “+0”, i.e. for triggering an immediate shutdown. If no time argument is specified, “+1” is implied.<\/p>\n

Note that to specify a wall message you must specify a time argument, too.<\/p>\n

If the time argument is used, 5 minutes before the system goes down the \/run\/nologin file is created to ensure that further logins shall not be allowed.<\/p>\n

OPTIONS <\/a> <\/h2>\n

The following options are understood:<\/p>\n

\u2212\u2212help<\/b><\/p>\n

Print a short help text and exit.<\/p>\n

\u2212H<\/b>, \u2212\u2212halt<\/b><\/p>\n

Halt the machine.<\/p>\n

\u2212P<\/b>, \u2212\u2212poweroff<\/b><\/p>\n

Power\u2212off the machine (the default).<\/p>\n

\u2212r<\/b>, \u2212\u2212reboot<\/b><\/p>\n

Reboot the machine.<\/p>\n

\u2212h<\/b><\/p>\n

Equivalent to \u2212\u2212poweroff<\/b>, unless \u2212\u2212halt<\/b> is specified.<\/p>\n

\u2212k<\/b><\/p>\n

Do not halt, power\u2212off, reboot, just write wall message.<\/p>\n

\u2212\u2212no\u2212wall<\/b><\/p>\n

Do not send wall message before halt, power\u2212off, reboot.<\/p>\n

\u2212c<\/b><\/p>\n

Cancel a pending shutdown. This may be used to cancel the effect of an invocation of shutdown<\/b> with a time argument that is not “+0” or “now”.<\/p>\n

EXIT STATUS <\/a> <\/h2>\n

On success, 0 is returned, a non\u2212zero failure code otherwise.<\/p>\n
